about

Do you like your metal layered, intricate, overwrought, convoluted, pompous, pretentious, meticulous and sprawling? If so then you have come to the right address. Master of Ceremonies offers six cuts of impatiently winding slabs of instrumental metal by one-man combo Ragnvaldr.

Master of Ceremonies represents the fruition of two years dedicated to creating a full length album. Although the music herein was not inspired by a specific band or genre, the nineties era of metal (which was formative in Ragnvaldr’s musical education) casts its shadow on the current proceedings. Masters of Ceremonies primarily has a layered texture. It is fueled by a fascination for the harmonies and counterpoint multi-voiced music provides. The album therefore focuses on the part-writing aspect of music. It attempts to weave together various yarns into both harmonious and discordant tapestries and it does so unimpeded by any vocalist.

The bonus tracks provide a glimpse into an alternate universe wherein this album would have indeed featured a vocalist for they contain:
-John Whiteside Parson's poem "The Birth of Babalon" set to the music of "Master of Ceremonies"
-The hymn to Jupiter Tonans "To Thundring Jove" set to the music of "The Fumigation From Storax"
The vocal parts are recited by Mr Gillespie, the Unconquered Sun.
